No One Is Turned Away: Why Work With a Nonprofit

NFCC and our member agencies are nonprofit organizations. We receive funding and support from various sources.

That funding enables our member agencies to charge nominal fees—and, occasionally, no fees when grants exist—for their services. In other words, when our agencies charge fees, they are restricted to a level that is just high enough to cover our expenses. This structure ensures our services are affordable, and more importantly, it means we do not benefit from your circumstances.

Instead, we provide you with unbiased guidance, keeping our focus on what is best for your situation.

What to Expect When You Call NFCC

When you call NFCC, you’ll be asked for your ZIP Code, whether you have a preference for phone or in-person counseling, and the type of service you are looking for. With that information, you will be connected to the nonprofit agency of your choice for credit counseling and debt-management services.

Real results. Real relief.

Working with an NFCC Certified Financial Counselor has made the difference for millions of consumers. Let us make a difference for you and how you feel about your money management skills.

NFCC Debt Management Plan (DMP)

Debt management plans serve the dual role of helping you repay your debts while creditors receive the money owed to them. They are a systematic way to pay down your outstanding debt through monthly payments to your credit counseling agency.

Your accounts will always be credited with 100 percent of the amount you pay through an NFCC agency. By participating in this type of debt management program, you may benefit from reduced or waived finance charges or fees, and experience fewer collection calls. When you have completed your payments-which typically takes 36-60 months- it may help you reestablish credit.

Debt Management Plan (DMP) vs. Debt Settlement

Debt settlement involves the services of a for-profit lawyer who charges you to arrange a single payoff for an amount lower than what you currently owe. While settling sounds simpler, it has some considerable negatives.
